It’s that time of the year when every gamer is wondering if that present under the tree is the new Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora or if it’s your Mum’s final attempt at getting you to become a bookworm. But what if we look past Christmas and focus on what 2024 has in store for us? Next year is set to be full to the brim with gifts for gamers, whether it be new technology, games or accessories.
From Apple VR Consoles to remastered versions of modern-day classics, I’ve got quite a bit to tell you. Let’s take a look at some of the things you need to keep an eye on and the technology you’ll want to put on your 2024 wish list.

Time for a switch? If you’ve asked for a Nintendo Switch for Christmas, you may want to hold off until the new one comes out. The Nintendo Switch 2 is rumoured to be hitting the market in the second half of 2024, and here’s what we know.
There has been very little official information from Nintendo, but any avid gamer can see that something is brewing for this world-renowned gaming company.
We’re coming up to the 7-year anniversary of the console, and that’s just starting to push the expected lifespan. Not only that, but Nintendo recently saw the big loss of Twitch from its console, with the platform announcing that it would be withdrawing from Switch in January 2024.
Now, this may all seem like bad news, but it is news nonetheless, and it is news that will mean Nintendo will have to step up its game as it comes to the anniversary of its console in March 2024.
The Last Of Us has recently hit the spotlight and stayed in the spotlight. With the help of a hit TV series, the second addition to the game has done incredibly well these last three years, and fans are over the moon to discover that there will be a remastered version available in 2024 for PS5.
Players will be able to take on the dead and the living in the shoes of both Abby and Ellie. If you haven’t yet gotten around to playing the second instalment in this series, I’d highly recommend doing so despite all the controversies and fan-hoo-ha. There is very little to be improved on, but the remastered version will definitely make it more accessible and elevate the gameplay.
Apple going virtual? It was only a matter of time before the biggest tech giant in the world decided to run with the big guys and release a VR headset.
The Apple Vision Pro is set to be released in March 2024, and boy, will it be a big one. Not only is this company known for its smooth and simple designs, but it is known for releasing some of the most entertaining mobile games out there. So far, they’ve only announced that 100 of their arcade titles will be available for the launch, but who knows what they may have in store in the future. I wonder if it’ll come with a charging cable or if that will cost extra…
Are you looking forward to testing out the newest addition to the expensive Apple family? Or are you more focused on the fact that VR multiplayer might actually become a more accessible thing in 2024? Regardless of what you might say, 2024 will be a big year for gamers and game developers. The competition looks to be tough, and the pace at which the industry is improving and upgrading is almost unrealistic.
Technology has always been a fast-moving concept, and as the years go on, this progression will surely increase. We can’t wait to see what the new year brings.
